Banashri Bose Harrison

Banashri Bose Harrison retired from the Indian Foreign Service in September 2016 after serving as a diplomat for 35 years in different parts of the globe. Her last position was Ambassador to Sweden & Latvia. She was mentored in her diplomatic career by late Ambassador Satnam Jit Singh, the former patron of HANDS from whom she learnt about its sterling work.Prior to joining the diplomatic service she was a lecturer in the University of Delhi for four years. Teaching ignited in her a life-long interest in helping the young people to learn and to prepare them for the challenges of life.

Studied at SUMI and passed old HS system in 1974 and joined viswa bharati santiniketan,completed master degree in English and joined SUMI as asstt teacher in 1979,did BEd from RKBT college in Darjeeling and MEd from santiniketan.
Appointed as Principal of SUMI in 1989 and served till july 2018.Actively engaged in the church work of the Diocese of Eastern Himalaya,the church of North India and supervised the Diocesan Institutions till 2017.involved in social activities as a member of KSA till 1985,was the President of kalimpong body building Assn and president of kalimpong Tae kwon do assn.was actively involved in civil defence movement in kalimpong.recipient of Director General’s medal for civil defence movement.was conferred with Siksha Ratna award from Govt of West Bengal in 2015 and is also the recipient of National Award to Teachers from Govt of India in 2017.now a member of the Board of Mgmt Dr Graham’s Homes kalimpong and member Board of Governors St Paul’s school,Darjeeling.
